Getting Diagnosed with POF

 

Getting diagnosed with POF was one of the scariest times of my life because initially the doctors thought there was a chance I had a brain tumor that was causing my hormone levels to go wild. Despite having excellent health insurance at the time from my job, the entire diagnostic process took many months. Lots of return visits for more blood tests and lots of waiting. 

 

In women under age 40, the diagnosis of POF can be made definitively if a woman has irregular menses plus FSH levels in the postmenopausal range (usually defined as >30; measured by a blood test).
